Gabriela Melinescu (b. 16 August 1942, Bucharest) is a contemporary Romanian poet, essayist and translator. Known in the 1960's as one of the main proponents of neomodernist poetry and the "muse" of Nichita Stănescu, she left Romania in 1975. Married with René Coeckelberghs, she remained in Sweden, but returned ocassionally in Romania after 1989, when she has published her Swedish Journal (Jurnalul suedez).
